Law firm, Kolonaki

The law firm offices are located in the center of Athens, in the privileged area of Kolonaki. The offices are housed in a building with a design style that combines diverse elements of modern and neoclassical architecture. The redesign and renovation of the office space was based on the desire to create a modern design language. Moreover, this language, expresses both the identity and aspirations of the firm and at the same time remains in discussion with the character of the building. The vision of the client, a well known Athenian lawyer, was to create a tailor made space. In this renovation, modern, contemporary elements blend in harmony with classical details in a coherent whole. The architectural study included working spaces, meeting rooms, a waiting area and a common kitchen used by the associates.

Architectural design

The impressive, emblematic wooden door defines the experience of entering the space. The entrance door creates the first gesture of contrast between old and new design styles. Grey and white tones  are prominent, along with the characteristic herringbone oak floor and the metal and glass details in doors and partitions. The first room, the waiting area with the reception desk, has a flexible role. Glass and metal sliding partitions define the access to the more private zones.

The associates’ section, the more private zone, includes auxiliary uses too. The distinct associates’ department follows a more transparent and lighter aesthetic. This design, serves both professional and functional needs. This zone is separate from the main space which includes the reception hall, the meeting room and the partners’ offices. Finally, the transparent, metal and glass partitions in the space is also a modern interpretation of contemporary working spaces.

Elements like the oak floor and the metal and glass details, offer a refreshing tone to the project. In addition, following the instructions of the client, these elements form an ideal balance between contemporary and classical details. Furthermore, structural details and elements in white Statuario marble, dark brown wooden doors complement the character of the space. Likewise, each element carries a different symbolism and plays a different part in the architectural narration.

The bespoke bookcases, office furniture and doors are constructed by expert craftsmen. These elements and are a central feature in the meeting rooms and are custom made. The result, supports the overall architectural concept and provides a unique identity to the office. Finally, each one of the interior elements draws inspiration from existing elements. Or, on the other hand, adopts the new style of  contemporary interventions and additions. This combination, gives a unique character to the architectural composition.
