A modern approach to hospitality in a historic building

At the heart of Athens, a city renowned for its rich history and vibrant culture, lies a newly redesigned boutique hotel. The project exemplifies the unique challenges that come with transforming an old, iconic building into a contemporary hotel. The result is a harmonious balance between Athens’ dynamic urban environment and the respect for the building’s historic origins.

The primary objective of the architectural design was to retain the character and essence of the historic structure while incorporating modern conveniences, high-end finishes, and efficient room layouts. The design approach aims to make the hotel feel both connected to the vibrant life of Athens and at the same time to offer a peaceful atmosphere.

One of the critical aspects of this project was maximizing the use of space in the hotel’s rooms. As is often the case with older buildings, the layout did not originally serve as a modern hotel. This challenge was addressed by rethinking the interior layout to make each room as functional and comfortable as possible.

The redesign preserved many of the building’s original architectural features. Ηigh ceilings and large windows, contribute to the hotel’s unique character giving the hotel a distinct identity. These specific features set it apart from more generic accommodations.

Interior design:

creating a tranquil environment

To elevate the guest experience the interior design uses premium materials and high-quality finishes with a mix of traditional and contemporary elements. In this way, the design reflects both the historical significance of the building and the modern needs of its clientele. Marble, a material with deep roots from Greece’s architectural heritage, is prominently used in the communal areas. High-quality wood throughout the rooms, add a sense of refinement and sophistication.  Each element of the interior design was chosen for its aesthetic and functional qualities. From the plush fabrics in the bedrooms to the durable yet elegant flooring in the lobby, every detail contributes to creating an inviting and refined

The lighting design also plays a crucial role in creating a tranquil atmosphere. Soft, warm lighting in the bedrooms and common areas foster a sense of relaxation. Brighter, more functional lighting is reserved for the reception area. In addition to physical design elements, the layout of the hotel enhances guests’ comfort and privacy. The communal spaces of the boutique hotel foster interaction between guests while also providing a connection to the city outside.

Bringing the city inside

The hotel’s prime location in the center of Athens is one of its key assets. The large windows throughout the hotel provide guests with stunning views of the city. These openings allow the guests to feel connected to the vibrant energy of Athens. The communal areas and guest rooms create a sense of openness. At the same time, light and space emphasize the connection between the hotel and its surroundings. The hotel’s rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the city, making it a popular spot for guests to relax and take in the sights.  The terrace serves both as a functional space and an extension of the hotel’s aesthetic.

The architectural design of this boutique hotel in the heart of Athens successfully marries the old with the new. The architectural design creates a space that respects the history of its surroundings while providing modern comforts and amenities. This project serves as an example of how to combine modern hospitality standards with the rich cultural heritage of a historic building. The result is a hotel that not only serves as a luxurious retreat for its guests but also becomes a part of the fabric of the city itself.
