Vacation Villas in Tinos: A contemporary tribute to tradition

The complex of the seven newly built vacation villas is located in the heart of Triantaros village, on Tinos. Designed with respect for local architecture and its cultural significance, this complex integrates with respect into the historic fabric of the village.

Triantaros is a well known Cycladic village, with characteristic narrow stone-paved alleys, white facades, and the enduring simplicity of traditional Aegean architecture. Perched on a steep incline, the villa complex enjoys a position that provides panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding landscapes.

The steep topography of the area plays a defining role in the complex’s design. Careful attention was given to ensure the development harmoniously blends into its surroundings. The complex respects the structure and scale of the village and offers modern conveniences. This balance of tradition and innovation creates a unique sense of place for residents and visitors alike.

Architectural design

The architectural concept behind this villa complex looks like a microcosm of Triantaros itself. Drawing inspiration from the organic layout of traditional settlements, the design incorporates interwoven outdoor and semi-outdoor spaces. These are reminiscent of the village’s intricate network of communal and private areas.

The Cycladic villas are connected through shared courtyards and stone-paved pathways, miming the communal areas of the settlement. These common areas act as extensions of the living spaces. They offer a fluid transition between the interior and the surrounding environment. By reinterpreting local architectural elements, such as the use of natural stone, wood, and plaster, the villas exude authenticity while embodying a contemporary aesthetic.

Outdoor spaces and materials

The complex’s outdoor spaces function as integral parts of the homes, functioning as open-air rooms. The patios, terraces, and private pools are framed by stone walls and landscaped with native plants, further enhancing the connection to the natural surroundings.

These outdoor areas are not merely decorative. They play a vital role in daily life, reflecting the Cycladic tradition of gathering around communal spaces. The pathways, or dimosia, which refer to the shared stone-paved alleys, are central to the complex’s organization, fostering a sense of community while offering a contemporary reinterpretation of an age-old design principle.

A cornerstone of the project’s philosophy is the thoughtful use of natural materials. These are fundamental to the traditional Cycladic architectural language.

The design avoids imitating traditional forms, instead embracing a contemporary approach that pays homage to the island’s architectural heritage. This balance ensures that the villas feel authentic without the limitations of historical replication.

Interior Spaces

Inside, the villas feature a minimalist design, with clean lines and understated decor. These allow the natural beauty of the surroundings to take center stage. Large windows and open-plan layouts enhance the sense of space and light, creating an airy, inviting atmosphere. The interiors maintain a strong connection to the outdoors. Living areas flow seamlessly onto terraces , blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces. The panoramic views of the Aegean, combined with the gentle rhythm of life in Triantaros, create an environment that fosters relaxation and rejuvenation.

In addition to its architectural merits, the complex embodies principles of sustainability. The use of natural materials and integration with the local environment minimizes its ecological impact. By preserving the character of Triantaros and contributing to the local economy, the project ensures that it supports the long-term vitality of the community.

The stone vacation villas in Triantaros, Tinos, represent a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity. By respecting the village’s architectural heritage while offering contemporary comforts, the complex provide an authentic retreat in the Cyclades. With their panoramic views, thoughtfully designed spaces, and commitment to sustainability, these homes invite visitors to connect with the spirit of Tinos in an authentic and meaningful way.
