Residence in Palaio Psychiko
Residence in Palaio Psychiko
The two-storey residence in Palaio Psychiko was a challenging project. In general, the renovation aims to meet the needs of a modern five-member family and their guests. In order to achieve a flexible living space, the ground floor consists of two functional units. Therefore, the “formal” unit with the dining room sits next to the “informal” family living room with the kitchen. Moreover, the two units can open-up to each other or separate. For this reason, two sliding doors function as partitions. In addition, the basement serves as a multi-functional space. Likewise, the living room in the first floor, is a communal space. As a result, the four bedrooms develop around it. However, the central element of the interior space and the experience of the house itself, is the stair. Certainly, the central staircase dominates in the entrance hall. In addition, it is architecturally conceived as a double wooden spiral stripe. Finally, the generous openings and overall layout enhance both visual contact and functional continuity. In that way, the different areas of the house and the outdoor spaces are unified.
