Project overview, the apartment transformation

The main goal of this renovation project in Agia Paraskevi was to transform an outdated apartment layout with multiple small, closed-off rooms into a modern, open-plan space. The existing partitions that divided the rooms were removed to create a seamless flow between different functional areas. This new layout allows for greater flexibility in how the space is used, with an emphasis on creating an elegant and minimal concept that suits the contemporary lifestyle of the apartment’s occupants.

The challenge of this project was to balance modern aesthetics with functionality. The end result was a spacious, airy living space that maximizes natural light. The design approach also focused on creating a clean and sophisticated atmosphere, utilizing neutral tones and high-quality materials to enhance the sense of space and elegance.

Reimagining the layout

One of the most significant changes was the rearrangement of the apartment’s layout. The traditional division of rooms was replaced by an open-plan concept, which connects the kitchen and living room into a unified space. This open design creates a sense of flow, making the apartment feel larger and more inviting.

The kitchen, was designed as a central element of the open plan. The inclusion of a kitchen island, which doubles as an extension to the dining table, is a key feature. The island not only offers additional counter space for cooking and dining, but also enhances the overall modern look of the apartment.

Sliding wooden partitions for flexibility

One of the standout features of the renovated apartment is the use of sliding wooden partitions. These partitions allow for the space to be easily reconfigured, depending on the needs of the occupants. For example, the kitchen can be separated from the living room when privacy is desired, or the two areas can be combined to create a larger, more communal space. This level of flexibility is essential in modern living, where spaces often need to serve multiple functions. The sliding partitions make the apartment highly adaptable to different situations.

Material choices and finishes

The selection of materials adds to the modern aesthetic of the apartment and ensures durability and ease of maintenance. Wood was chosen for its warmth and texture, contributing to a sense of coziness despite the minimal design approach. The sliding partitions blend seamlessly with the rest of the apartment, offering both functionality and visual appeal.

The neutral color palette chosen for the apartment also plays a critical role in achieving a calm and serene environment. Soft tones of beige, grey and white dominate the space, creating a clean backdrop.

Special attention was also given to custom-made elements that always give a unique personality to each project . In the Agia Paraskevi apartment, custom furniture and storage solutions, such as the built-in bookcase were designed. This bookcase not only serves a practical purpose but also adds to the aesthetic of the space. Its sleek, minimalist design complements the overall theme of the apartment while providing ample storage for books and decorative items. Similarly, other custom details, such as the cabinetry in the kitchen and the bedroom wardrobes, are designed to meet the specific needs of the occupants. In the living room, the fireplace was strategically placed to become a central feature of the open-plan layout,  adding a sense of warmth and comfort. I
